Mocha Cookie Espresso Smoothie

By: Samantha RowlandUpdated: March 17, 2019

Espresso, oats, chocolate protein powder, all blended up for your enjoyment. Yes, I made this an espresso smoothie, and it’s FABOULOUS!! Breakfast with coffee already infused in it. Ummm yes please, everyday! Midday snack on the weekend. Sign me up! Talk about preworkout! I’m sorry but you just can’t buy anything premade that is this good! The best part is that this is 100% healthy and will give you energy to start your day or power through a sweaty workout session!

Mocha Cookie Espresso Smoothie Recipe Tips

I’ve been playing a little too much with my espresso machine at my house! It’s not fancy, my mom got it for me two years ago for Christmas and I just LOVE when I can start my Saturday with a nice espresso and pancakes. However, I’ve been teaching spin on Saturday mornings at 9am and by the time I get home from class I’m STARVING and pretty exhausted. This mocha cookie espresso smoothie has been my savior the past few weekends!

Expresso

A nice jolt of caffeine is exactly what I need to continue with my day and the carb/protein balance is perfect to restore my depleted body after a sweaty 15 mile ride at 9am! I don’t know about you, but I really can’t eat much before a cardio class. So I end up teaching spin on an empty stomach (ok ok – In all honesty I can’t get up early enough to eat – the weekends are for SLEEPING!!), so needless to say I’m a starving marvin by the time I get home at 10:15.

So I down one of these smoothies, have a slice of banana bread, or pancakes and continue with the day. These protein shakes are so good, I have been having them as my preworkout shakes as well. I just may be addicted!

It’s February, it’s cold, maybe it’s snowing?? Admit it, this sounds amazing and you will just sip it close to the fire bundled up with your favorite blanket. Nothing is better than cold coffee and chocolate. MMMM

Ninja Blender

This chocolate espresso smoothie is packed with protein and good carbs, naturally sweetened, vegan, gluten free, and dairy free. Oats and chia seeds help keep you full for hours, banana and dates add the perfect sweetness without the need for additional sugar. Vegan chocolate protein powder adds 20 grams of protein with minimal ingredients. The oats don’t break down all the way, and they give the shake the cookie consistency. It’s like you broke up cookies and threw them in the blender (affiliate link). It’s fantastic. If you haven’t tried this, you really should!

Let’s admit it though, I don’t really need to sell you on trying this espresso smoothie do I? No, no I don’t!

This recipe sounds so delightful. I hate coffee though, so I think I’ll subsitute some Dandy Blend.

That sounds amazing! If I’m teaching a class, I usually eat a little something beforehand but not if I’m running. I am a HUGE fan of coffee and therefore a HUGE fan of coffee in my smoothies!! :)

I like something small before I workout. Just a snack so I don’t get too hungry. I love adding coffee or cold brew to my shakes. A little caffeine kick and the flavor is fabulous. :-)

If I drank coffee…I would make that!! Have you heard of bulletproof coffee? I would also drink that, every day haha.
No I don’t eat before workouts necessarily…I just eat when I am hungry haha.
    Have a great day!!
