About 12 or so years ago, my life changed for the best. I was introduced to my now step-dad and our new family traditions around the Christmas tree. It’s funny how 12 years later, some things never end. For starters, there is always lots of laughing as we try to guess what the presents are, my step-dad being the most dramatic and quite impressive on his guessing abilities. For years my go-to gift for him was the biggest mugs I could find. I would spend all year looking for the perfect mug to beat last years.
As you can imagine, Tom (my step-dad) has quite the collection of mugs from over the past few years. I love going over to my parents house and reminiscing over the holiday memories we have made with each of these mugs. One year my goal was to find the biggest, lightest mug. The mug I found was likely made to be a soup bowl that looks like a mug but OMG it was so perfect. I grab that mug every time I go over there.
You see Tom has a thing for tea. He likes to make a huge mug of tea, no matter what time of the year it is. But especially during the winter months. The hot tea in the mug helps keep his hands warm, and the tea gives him something to keep warm on the inside.
Dave and I have recently in the past year discovered the beauty of sipping tea. I was always a coffee girl, and couldn’t understand my step-dad’s obsession with tea. Then I discovered the beauty in tea. Dave and I find that sipping tea doesn’t fill you up like gulping water (which is the only way I know how to drink water fyi). This is especially helpful for Dave, who is having some stomach issues, and drinking to much water at once causes him much discomfort.
Needless to say, I now have quite a large collection of tea. One of my current favorites is Pumpkin Spice Tea from Bigelow tea! Have you tried it yet this year? It’s like the holidays in a nice warm mug. I sometimes add coconut milk and maple syrup or honey to make it even more irresistible.
If you are running to a party or not sure what to bring to the host, grab a couple of boxes of Bigelow tea and the biggest mug you can find. I swear you can’t go wrong with this gift (at least not in my family). It’s practical and you can create memories over the holidays that you can reminisce over every time you see that mug. Hot tea is a great reason to slow down and spend a few minutes together, just enjoying the season. I highly suggest gathering around with family and friends, with hot tea and your favorite holiday cookies, you are guaranteed to create some lasting memories.
If you are anything like me, you will find yourself in your local Walmart, picking up wrapping paper and last minute gifts (am I the only one?), do yourself a favor and pick up Bigelow Pumpkin Spice or Salted Caramel Tea as your “just in case” gift. If anything it can be a gift to yourself to remind yourself to slow down and enjoy the simple moments during the holidays.
