Why you’ll love Coconut Vegan Bacon
I was vegetarian for almost 10 years! I started out more of a carb-atarian, where I would pretty much only eat my weight in pasta, pizza and cereal! Eventually, I started incorporating vegetables into my diet as well! I slowly started learning about the importance of protein and started eating the “meat replacements” including a fake meat bacon that I enjoyed so much.
As I continued my journey learning about food and eating less processed foods, I cut out those fake meat replacements and started to find ways to make my own version of the flavors I missed! I grew to love my black bean burgers and quinoa meatballs, but couldn’t quite figure out how to get that flavor of bacon that I missed so much! So I stalked the internet and found out that people were making temph bacon and it looked so promising. But I hated it and it hated me back (upset stomach) so I used the same seasonings and started making this instead!

What do you need to make Vegan Coconut Bacon at home?

- Ground Cumin
- Smoked Salt
- Large coconut flakes
How to make coconut bacon without liquid smoke:
You will notice I don’t use any liquid smoke because it’s not my favorite, so instead, I use smoked sea salt! Have you tried it before? The smoked sea salt adds that same smoky flavor as liquid smoke but it’s not as over-powering. It’s also easier to use just a small pinch so you can control the flavor more.
However, if you like liquid smoke and don’t want to go out and buy smoked sea salt, you can use 1 1/2 tsp. of liquid smoke in place of the smoked sea salt!
What kind of coconut do you need to make Coconut Vegan Bacon?
This recipe uses both the large coconut flakes as well as the finely shredded coconut flakes. Be sure you only but unsweetened coconut flakes for this! You can but both at Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods or get them on Amazon or Vitacost. I always have a few bags in the pantry so I can make bacon anytime! And after you try this recipe, you will too!
I have put this coconut bacon on literally everything because it is such a great topping. If you have the chance I highly recommend trying it on breakfast hash, veggie burgers or even pizza.

I do not see an oven temperature listed. Other recipes range from 325-350 degrees but also have different bake times. What temperature do you recommend? I can’t eat soy so I appreciate finding your recipe with coconut aminos!

I’m so sorry about that – 350F! make sure to stick around by the end since every oven is different!
