Beginner Cardio Workout

Published December 4, 2015. Last updated November 19, 2019 by Samantha Rowland

Today I have a fun beginner cardio workout for you to try! I like to provide quick and effective workouts that will help you get your workout done in under 20 minutes a day. This helps take out the excuse that you don't have time to exercise! Who doesn't have at least 15 minutes just 4 days a week? Sometimes it just takes having a schedule to stick to and a workout already written and ready for us to start and stick to our fitness journey.

Why you'll love this beginner workout

I remember when I first started working out. I would get the Fitness magazine and attempt the workout in the magazine; which often had insanely difficult moves for me as a beginner, or it had exercises I couldn't do without a gym membership. Either way, I often felt discouraged and that I would never be strong enough to do any of those exercises. But then luckily, I stumbled on a few fitness DVDs that were easy to follow and the workouts were about 20-25 minutes, just long enough that I wanted to die but not so long that I actually did.

I kept all of this in mind when I design my workouts! To show you exactly what you can expect if you sign up for my 10 anywhere workouts (see below), I thought I would give you a sneak peek at a Beginner Cardio Workout. I hope you try it and let me know what you thought.

If you are excited about how this workout is written but just know that you need someone to help hold you accountable, get you started on the right foot, have you focusing on the right goals and give you a well laid out plan on how to achieve those goal. This program will help you clearly define your goals and give you an actionable plan on how to achieve those goals, from personal training to meal planning to cooking tutorials, I will help you with all the various facets of building and maintaining a healthy, fit body.

This self paced workout is based on high intensity interval training (or HIIT). There are so many fantastic reasons to train your body using HIIT, I wrote an entire post about the benefits of high intensity exercise! So go check that out if you are interested! One of the reasons I love HIIT workouts is they are fast and effective and you rarely have time to get bored. I am such a fan of getting in, getting my workout done and getting no with the rest of the day. That is what 15 minute HIIT workouts are all about! And because these workouts are different every day, you never have the chance to get stagnant, bored or not feel challenged.

The below workout is specifically cardio, but I wouldn't be true to myself if I didn't also offer some weight training workouts. Much like my beginners series workouts, my weight training exercises are easy to do, can be done in the comfort of your own home (or in the gym) and only require a few dumbbells. You can also modify it with resistance bands as well. Building lean muscle is the goal for this program, it helps keep your body metabolically active, which means you are burning more calories all day long, whether or not you worked out that day.

So for today's workout, you will need a timer and a mat or carpet to workout on. I use an app on my phone for the timer, it's called Interval Timer. Or send me an email and I am more than happy to help get you set up! All the moves and how to perform them are right on the workout! You can simply print out the below image and take it with you anywhere and you will have a workout with all the moves and how to perform them with you!

I started being into fitness in college but I wasn’t really INTO it until I did P90X. Bam! Tony Horton will always hold a spot in my heart [and biceps]. Corny I know, but true :)

We take a jump rope away with us whenever we travel, as it’s a really good way to get a quick and intense workout in.
