I love the posts that talk about “a day in the life of”. I thought it would be fun to give you an update on Pepper since she started Purina Pro Plan Bright Mind dog food for older dogs, and do a day in the life of Pepper! She actually has the life that I want when I retire. Think naps, lots of good food and long leisurely walks. Sounds pretty fantastic right? Did you know that dogs are considered senior by the time they reach age seven? It really is retirement time for Pepper. Good thing she hasn’t slowed down too much yet!
What does a day in the life of Pepper look like? Much like her owners, Pepper is very active but also loves sleep! Peppers favorite snacks include carrots and eggs and she works hard to let anyone that walks into the kitchen know that she deserves a treat by looking as pitiful as possible. She doesn’t know I’m onto her game!
Pepper has always been a frisbee dog. She has literally been chasing a frisbee around since she was 2 months old. At one point I had 3 German Shepard’s, Pepper, her mom and her dad. Pepper would follow after Sugar and Major learning tips and tricks to becoming a stellar frisbee dog. She still is lightening fast and can track the frisbee in the dark. I’m constantly amazed by her abilities! This is an old trick she will never get tired of!
Lately pepper has also been going on a lot of long walks. Dave and I make it a point to be as active as possible and since the weather is cooling off, we are walking more than ever! There are so many dogs in the neighborhood! These walks have really been testing Pepper’s manners and her anxiety as we are approached by other dogs. Lately, Pepper has been letting other dogs pass her by without much of an issue (she’s getting really good at this) and often doesn’t even bark or pay much attention to the other dogs. This is huge for her! I think the key is consistency, and for me to not get all riled up! Helping her maintain these habits as she gets older will help ensure that she will continue to be our walking buddy for years to come.A girls best friend... nope not diamonds! Pepper also gets to spend the day with 2 awesome cats that constantly let her know she’s not suppose to be in their personal space. She’s a good dog though and let’s the cats think they are in charge. Instead she sneaks onto my bed and naps all day. Talk about a good life! If she’s not napping you can often find her just hanging out on the back porch watching for squirrels and birds to chase!
We’ve been feeding Pepper Purina Pro Plan Bright Mind Dog Food for about a month after learning that Purina Pro Plan Bright Mind contains enhanced botanical oils shown to promote alertness and mental sharpness in dogs seven and older with visible results within 30 days. I can’t imagine Pepper being any other way than her spunky self, and I am trying to do whatever I can to keep her that way!
Within a month, we have noticed that she’s been rediscovering some old tricks. She’s been amusing herself with a fox toy she stole from the cats. She normally doesn’t pay much attention to toys but she has rediscovered her love of fetch in the house – oh boy! She used to play fetch when she was a younger before she could figure out how to catch the frisbee. She’s also found the stash of frisbees’ that I keep hidden from her (so she doesn’t chew on them). She’s definitely been much more playful and extra curious lately.
