The summer has been flying by and Dave and I refuse to let it slip away without a summer adventure. There are so many fun outdoor activities that I wanted to do at the beginning of summer, but then I got caught up in my studying and well the summer just flew by. So we do what we always do and spent the entire day on an adventure, taking breaks to refuel with coffee and give me some time to work on my online personal training program that will be launching in the next few weeks(!!!!!!)
We live close to the National White Water Center and we have been planning an adventure there for quite some time. My girlfriend Christy and her son suggested we go Stand Up Paddle Boarding, and I was instantly excited! There are literally no words for how excited I was, I even got up early that day. 🙂 Our morning started super early (for me) and we were out on the water by 10:30 am. Y’all, I seriously had so much fun! I even attempted yoga on the paddle board. I’m going to admit right now, so much harder than I expected. But I’m determined to go back and try again (sans phone) in the next week or two!
I loved getting out on the water and reminding myself that fitness and healthy living don’t always have to be about pushing yourself to your limits. Sometimes it’s about connecting with nature and not being afraid to get your hair wet (yes I fell in… twice). Apparently, I am just as clumsy on the water as I am on land. Who knew! But we had the best time and I was so pumped to continue our adventure in Charlotte.
My constant adventure in life right now is trying to develop workouts for my online personal training programs. I have been working endlessly on drafting workouts, testing workouts, and tweaking routines. I have been loving the idea of working on this kind of stuff away from the house (thanks Jen) and decided that my old stomping grounds of Caribou Coffee would be the perfect place for some inspiration (and much needed caffeine). So after we showered and changed, we continued our adventure in Charlotte!
I worked at Caribou Coffee for 3 years in college. It was by far my favorite job ever. Caribou Coffee is hands down my favorite coffee, but I guess that happens when you work the 5:30 am shift for 3 years 🙂 Being a barista was awesome, I always felt like I was part of peoples favorite time of their mornings, and people were always so happy to see me. I still get those warm and fuzzy feeling when I walk into Caribou Coffee. Oh, and that intoxicating coffee smell! When I walked in I asked the barista what was new on the menu and he mentioned the new Crafted Press coffee. I was super excited to try this since he said it was cold brewed coffee that they let steep for 12 hours. Sign this girl up! It sounded exactly like what I needed to keep me firing on all cylinders after getting up early.
I spent an hour or so writing up a few workouts and then we went to take a walk in one of my favorite parts of town. There is a huge park in Charlotte, where you can go and just get away from all the craziness. Dave and I actually went here for one of our first dates, so it holds a special place in my heart. We walked around for a bit and I got the extra energy I needed! So, I did some handstands because well, that’s just the kind of girl I am.
Dave and I finished the day with a date night that included sitting outside and eating pizza. I have to admit I’ve been loving our weekly date nights and it never fails when it’s Dave’s choice, we go for pizza (gluten free for him of course). This just reminds me that we don’t always have to be strict on our diets or stress over what we eat. Live those crazy adventure days to the fullest, they don’t come around often enough!
